Reiki, What is it??

Many of you may have heard Reiki, but most people don't know what it is. So lets start with the meaning of the word, The syllable of the Japanese word Reiki, means "universal source", this in essence means divine energy, the second syllable ki means "breath of life" and is the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese word chi and the Hindu word prana. So the word Reiki could be translated to mean Divine Life Energy. The practice of Reiki is the practice of channeling Healing energy to help those around you.

Reiki is not a learned skill, instead practitioner of Reiki has went though a process called attunement that is suppose to make the practitioner more connected with the universal source and there for able to channel it's energy.

Once you have went though a attunement, the flow of energy does not become a choice, instead anytime you place you hands on yourself or another the energy will flow if healing is need. The Reiki practitioner will only serve as a channel at that point, and the Reiki energy will then heal both the practitioner and the person in need of the energy. One way of describing how the energy works is to place a cup in side a bowl, fill the cup with water until it is overflowing in to the bowl the cup would represent the Reiki practitioner and and the water would be the energy.

Reiki is said to have originated thousands of years ago in Tibet. Knowledge of Reiki was lost, until around 1850 when Doctor Mikoa Usi claim to have rediscovered it. The story is, Dr. Usi claimed to have traveled to the Holy Koryama mountain in Japan, in order to fast and meditate for 21 days and nights. Nothing happened until his last night on the mountain. While meditating he saw a white light moving toward him. This light hit him in his forehead where the third eye is said to be and he saw many different colored buttons, containing Sanskrit symbols. At was at this time he claimed to have learned the healing method of Reiki.
